Young Authors: Session 1
Write and Illustrate Your Own Book
Grow your writing skills as you explore the art of storytelling! This class is taught by nationally recognized NYT Bestselling Illustrator & Author, Jennifer Zivoin. Students will engage in fun activities to expand their abilities to think and write creatively. The class will explore various techniques to bring descriptive details into writing as participants create and bring to life a cast of unique characters. At the end of the session each student will present a drawing and short written narrative from the point of view of a character of their own creation! Students should come prepared with paper and pencils to each online class.
Note: If, for any reason, you are not able to make the class at the particular time scheduled, you will be sent the class recording to watch and learn at a time convenient for you.
Curriculum includes:
- Learning new vocabulary
- Expanding on descriptive words
- Generating new ideas
- Writing short narratives from unique perspectives
- Developing and drawing fictional characters
Young Authors: Session 2
Create Your Own Book Character
Grow your writing and illustrating skills as you continue to explore the art of storytelling. Students will engage in fun activities to expand their creative writing abilities and their understanding of how words and pictures work together to tell a complete story. Building on the ideas from Session 1, the class will write and illustrate a picture book about the unique characters they created. At the end of the session students will create and present a complete collaborative picture book that they wrote and illustrated themselves! Students should come prepared with paper and pencils to each online class.
